Three comic books stacked on a brown wooden table. The cover shows a beach scene facing a sunrise with a silhouette of a factory in the distance. Silhouettes of people on the beach: all ages and types. There's a giant yellow rubber duck in the sea.

The Climate Comic

Intergenerational stories about climate change

This comic book is the result of a collaboration between communities of south Wales, an advisory group, researchers and myself. The aim of the book is to bring together experiences of older and younger generations when it comes to climate change and explore connections people have to the places that matter to them. All the stories are based on real people who took part in creative workshops with the researchers.

My role was about more than just illustrating: I also created the narrative arcs and connections that formed the base of the stories in the comic. I went through workshop transcripts and pulled together threads so that each spread represents a different location and covers the most prominent themes discussed there.

So far the comic book has been a success: the project was awarded further impact funding to create activity packs for schools and policymakers. The images were also displayed at the Urdd and at the Taliesin Arts Centre with a learning event that shared best practice from the process.

You can read testimonials and download the comic both in English and Welsh on the project website
