Resilient pollination

Did you know bees and other pollinators are major contributors to UK agriculture? I was commissioned to draw illustrations by a team of ecologists, economists and sociologists, whose Resilient Pollinators project explored the impacts of future scenarios on the resilience of pollinator natural capital, identify tipping points in service provision and assessing the feedbacks these have on economic and socio-cultural values. The research team wanted illustrations that showed the value of pollinators in different areas: wellbeing of the general public, farmers who manage land and food production.

I drew an illustrated landscape combining the three focus areas and highlighting pollinator friendly landscape features such as hedges and flowering pollinator strips. The quotes are based on qualitative study interviews expressing deep, heartfelt connection humans have with our landscapes. Three smaller images use elements from the larger image with key points for each focus area - these images will be shared with the research project partners to help build awareness of the importance of pollinator friendly .

You can read more about the research project on the Food System Resilience website.
